Problem Statement

Gire was facing the last stage of decline of Novell Netware services, not receiving appropiate technical support, expensive user licenses and lack of technical enablers to be able to mantain ISO27001 certification because all the systems have a single point of failure, no datacenter replication, service availability of less than 60% and other constraints that trigger a large digital transformation program in order to set the foundation for new business requirements, security enhancement, service availability, dissaster recovery and business continuity plans.

Projects executed

Creation of the core infrastructure

With the objective of decommision of the old Novell Netware Systems we needed to have the core infrastructure functioning. In a program of 8 projects that include the analysis, design and implementation of the following services:

  • Active Directory: To support DEV/TEST/QA/PROD environments, 10k users, GPOs, RBAC,
  • Enterprise PKI: Creation of the Private Key Infrastructure in order to manage Internal use Certificates.
  • DHCP: To be able to relay in multiple VLANs and Multiple sites
  • DNS: To manage Internal and External DNS records
  • Radius Server: To manage authentication  to VPNs and WIFI
  • Print Services: To print with AD credentials
  • File Services: To mantain the current application sets for permission, logs, etc.
  • System Center Configuration Manager: To provide capabilites of distributed patching, inventoryand Operating system distribution.

Creation of the Collaboration infrastructure

With the objective of decommision of the old Novell Netware collaboration Systems we needed to have the core infrastructure functioning. In a program of 4 projects that include the analysis, design and implementation of the following services:

  • Exchange Server 2013: To support email, Calendar, Mobile devices.
  • Sharepoint Server 2013: To support Document container, Wikis, Discussions and blogs.
  • Lync Server 2013: To support internal Instant Messaging, integration with Exchange and Sharepoint, Mobile devices and Presence.
  • Centrel Solutions: To act as the main application launcher.

Migration of the Novell Netware systems

  • Migration from Novell Netware to MS Active Directory: 10k users.
  • Migration from Novell Groupwise to Microsoft Exchange
  • Migration from Novell Application Launcher to Xialinks
  • Migration from Novell NDPS to MS Print Server
  • Migration from Novell File Management Suit to MS File Server
  • Migration from Novell Vibe to MS Sharepoint Server 2013

Stabilization of the Infrastructure

Once with the Core and collaboration infrastructure ready and the Novell Netware Services Migrated and decomisioned we proceeded with the implementation of the Stabilization projects resulting in a Program of 6 projects  in which we include:

  •  DRP/BCP: Dissaster Recovery Procedure and business continuity plan Including Network, Core Infrastructure, Collaboration Infrastructure, Applications, Services and Operations from the principal to the secondary Data Center.
  • System Center Operation Manager 2012: To monitor Network, Core Infrastructure and Collaboration Infrastructure.
  • Compliance: Configuring all the services to comply with Normatives and regulations like ISO27001, Privacy Policy Law 25326, PCI-DSS, BCRA (Central Bank of Argentina Republic) A5374 and BCRA A4609

Implementation of Business Applications Infrastructure

  • MS SQL Server Cluster: When the company decision has been made in favor of Microsoft Technologies we implemented multi-site clusters to support the implementation of the business applications on DEV/TEST/QA/PROD environments.
  • Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012: After selection we design and deploy the MS AX Infrastructure that includes application servers, Reporting Servers, NLB servers, and RDS Servers to save bandwith in case of Home Office activities or DRP. Also supporting the development team mantaining the stability of the servers
  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013: After selection we design and deploy MS Dynamics CRM infrastructure to support B2B, B2C and Customer Helpdesk and Knowledge base
